Cotes du Rhone

Côte du Rhône AOC is produced on both sides of the river Rhône, in France. Between Avignon and Vienne, over 73 000 hectares. Several appelations are produced on the same vineyard: côte-rôtie, condrieu, château-grillet, saint-joseph, cornas, saint-péray, crozes-hermitage, hermitage, côtes-du-rhône villages, vinsobres, rasteau, gigondas, beaumes-de-venise, muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise, vacqueyras, châteauneuf-du-pape, lirac et tavel.The appellation is spread over 171 villages.

Greeks and Romans brought wine-growing to the region. The town of Vienne became a wine-growing capital. In the middle-ages, as the popes where living in Avignon, the region grew in activity with wine-growing, until the end of the nineteenth century. In spite of wine disease, Côte du Rhône AOC wine found its way back to the top.

The grapes for the red wine are: grenache, cinsaut, syrah and mourvèdre.

The Côte du Rhône red wines have aromas of black berries, with a hint of soft spices as white pepper and scrubland.

The Côte du Rhône rosé reminds of english candies and berries.
The white wine grapes are clairette, with a bit of roussanne and marsanne. The Côte du Rhône white wines show flavours as flesh of fruits (peach) and also white flowers.
