Hermitage

Hermitage wine, -Ermitage or l'hermitage-, is an Appellation which relates to the vineyard located on the left bank of the river Rhône, in France. The vineyard production is spread over 135 hectares, in the villages of Larnage, Tain-l’Hermitage and Croze-l’Hermitage.

The first comments about the vineyard to be founded are from the Tenth century. In the Thrithteenth century, a so called Henri-Gaspard de Stérimberg knight settled in the region, after the Crusade wars. He had the small chapel of l'Hermitage built and grew vines around it. His wine was to be wellknown quickly.

The ruby red wine of l'Hermitage is made with syrah grapes. Its aromas starts in red berries and evolves towards stone fruits,-mostly green olive-, as it grows old. It shows undergrowth, leather and  truffles as well.

L'hermitage white wine of is made with roussanne and  marssanne grapes. Its aromas are flourished as iris, narcisus and lime blossom. As it grows old, a fresh nose of vanilla and grilled almond.

The exceptional " straw wine ", - vin de paille -, is made according to historical gallo-roman methods, with white grapes.

Hermitage wines belong to the most well-known wines in France. The land where the vine is located is exceptional.
