BordeauxChâteau de Rochemorin
This old fortified farm, mentioned by Montesquieu in his letters, a famous French philosopher, is located on the highest crest in the Graves commune of Martillac, in the Pessac-Léognan wine area (Bordeaux).
Its vineyards spread over 105 ha of vines whose average age is 17 years old. 87 ha are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (red) and the other 18 ha with Sauvignon Blanc.
From this fine gravel soil, elegant, oaky dry whites and well-balanced reds are produced. The sloping relief offers a remarkable southern exposure to the vines which also benefit from a natural drainage system.
Grapes are either harvested manually or mechanically in selected pickings called “tris” in order to select only the ripest grapes. The wine slowly matures for one year in oak barrels (30 to 40% new oak) on full lees with bâtonnage (racking). These wines are expressive after 2 to 5 years but can age for up to 20 years.
