BordeauxChâteau Rieussec

The Rieussec estate belonged to the Carmes de Langon monks until its confiscation during the French Revolution. As a ”national asset”, Château Rieussec was purchased by the period’s owner of Château La Louvière. The property then passed through a number of owners and was finally taken over by Eric de Rothschild (Lafite) in 1984.

Premier Cru Classé of Sauternes and Barsac, the estate now includes 90 hectares of vineyards which are located in the commune of Fargues, very close to the appellatin leader Yquem.

To enhance Château Rieussec’s potential, harvests are more controlled, ageing chais have been renovated and a fermenting chai has been built. Sémillon (95%), Muscadelle (2%) and Sauvignon (3%) are harmoniously blended. The best wines rest up to 26 months in oak barrels, of which approximately half are renewed each year. With its unique personality, Château Rieussec may now become a serious threat to its prestigious neighbours.
