Rhône ValleyDomaine Jean Michel Gérin

A wine lover par excellence and 5th generation of winemakers on this small estate, Jean Michel Gerin is one of the greatest producers of the Côte Rôtie and Condrieu appellations. He took over the domaine in 1983, beginning with less than 3 ha in the village of Ampuis, on the right bank of the Rhône River. He slowly acquired several plots and extended his vineyards over 10 ha.

Two grape varietals are used to produce appealing, deliciously structured and expressive wines: 8 ha of Syrah and 2 ha of Viognier. The vineyard’s average production turns around 40000 bottles a year. The terraces “en chaillées” (steep and uneven terraces) cling to seep slopes and are supported by stone walls which had to be manually built stone by stone.

The vineyard of his cuvée Grandes Places is located on the top of the coteau where vines benefit from excellent exposure. With his prodigious terroir, Jean Michel Gerin really puts his heart and soul into producing deep, velvety and well-balanced wines.
