Anise
To begin with, Pastis used to be a beverage with medicinal properties meant to eat heartily, to heal stomach aches and ease digesting. Among all the plants used: green anise, fennel and star anise.
Slowly, people living in the Mediterranean Sea area decided to merge pleasure and utility: they created this “potion beverage” by adding water and it became a very thirst-quenching drink.
Pastis and Anises, - symbol of the sun, of holidays in France and petanque (game of bowls played in the South of France)-, are meant to enjoy your aperitif!
