BordeauxChâteau Coucheroy
Belonging to Les Vignobles André Lurton, Château Coucheroy has a lovely history. Its Gascon name « Couchiroy » comes from a legend of the 16th century. The future King of France, Henri IV, surprised by a sudden thunderstorm, took shelter in the house of some winegrowers. The place was known henceforth as “Coucheroy”, meaning “the King slept here”. The Château de la Louvrière, built in the 18th century, was named Château Coucheroy when its owner, Jean-Baptiste Mareilhac, bought the « Couchiroy » vineyard.
Its vineyards, whose soils are composed of gravel with a clay sub-soil, are located on the communes of Martillac and Léognan, in the South of Bordeaux. A traditional fertilisation with limited impact preserves the environment. The average age of vines is between 10 and 12 years. Grapes of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are fermented in stainless-steel temperature controlled tanks with a patented cap-breaking system, which allows a perfect extraction of the tannins.
Authentic descendants of Middle-aged « Clarets », these wines age 12 months in oak barrels.
